Who’s caring? Lecture Dorte Kristensen at the Faculty of Architecture, TU Delft

On February the 28th, Dorte Kristensen gave a lecture at TU Delft's Faculty of Architecture, with the theme: Who's caring? Dorte illustrated atelier PRO's view on architecture and care for the elderly. In our opinion, senior citizens are as much a part of society as anyone else, something reflected in the residential care projects we have worked on in recent years. Projects like the Scheldehof, in which we transformed a former metal sheet factory in the historic heart of Vlissingen into a care centre that also includes a wide range of public facilities - such as a brasserie, studios, a cinema, a theatre and shops. But also a project like De Statie in Sas van Gent, a 'community' with senior housing, a primary school and a library. What links these projects is that they add something - not only for the elderly residents, but also for the surrounding area. Because living together is a common effort, and everyone - young and old - is part of the community.
