'Our best design for the elderly? A comprehensive school with a beer tap'

Dorte Kristensen wrote an article for Dutch magazine de Architect on ‘designing for the elderly'. Contrary to how many architects may feel, this is not some sort of ‘distant horizon'. Because we are the elderly - when we’re older. Senior citizens are just that: citizens, like everybody else, with their own individual wishes and needs, and part of the community. And therefore, in Dorte's view, it is high time we actively incorporate this into our designs.

In addition to the vision article, Dorte previously joined de Architect’s theme table on ‘caring architecture’ and was a guest at their podcast series, where she talked about elderly housing with Merel Pit, Tracy Metz and Evelien van Veen.
