Two car parks were built as part of the Medical Centre Meander – a public car park integrated under the building for visitors and a separate staff car park, with its own architecture, located in the green surrounds of the hospital.

Important considerations for the design of the car parks were orientation, accessibility and safety for the users. Construction began in 2006 with both car parks completed in 2013. Closed walls and hidden corners were avoided to allow good visibility through the whole space. Daylight is used for orientation where possible.

The four-storey staff car park is situated in the park-like landscape and is directly accessible from the service road. Its split-level structure was developed in a construction team.

Currently accommodating 830 parking spaces, this amount will be increased to 1070 in 2019.  Located between the trees, the freestanding structure has an open façade, for ventilation, which is adorned with vertically-mounted trunks of oak. Climbing plants like Boston Ivy and Wisteria will grow up the trunks to eventually cover the facade. Thereby, in spite of its size, the car park will soon be integrated into the landscape.

From the stairwell, staff can wander through the green surrounds to the hospital’s staff entrance where the uniform distribution is also located.

The gross surface area is 19.500 m² and the budget was  € 6.651.620.
