About the project
In 2015, the new Deventer City Hall, designed by Neutelings Riedijk architects, was completed; this new building is linked to the one from the 17the century Town Hall and the adjacent historic Landshuis. To bring old and new together, atelier PRO was asked to design the entire complex; at the same time, we also designed the restoration of the old building.
In the interior, we deliberately opted for contemporary interventions with a historic feel, such as the large, pixelated “flower carpets” that evoke the atmosphere of still lifes. The use of color refers to pigments from the 17th century, with colors such as ultramarine, indigo, umber, kralak and lead tin yellow.
