Space for expansion through the flexible set-up of Meander Medical Center
Now that the demand for care continues to increase, it is important to design smart care buildings: hospitals and medical centers that are flexibly designed, therefore easy to expand and adapt - and therefore future-proof.
That's how we designed our 2013 Meander Medical Center have worked in Amersfoort — and the fact that this setup works is evident from the fact that we have designed a new wing at the existing hospital in recent years. The new building has the same qualities as the original building: a people-centered medical complex with patient privacy, good wayfinding, landscape views and flexible and sustainable design.
The new wing - which primarily served as an extension of the “Hotfloors” of the Meander, the department where the intensive care with the operating rooms is located - houses the Coronary Care Unit for intensive cardiac care, an eye day center with a view and two hybrid operating rooms, with a large floor space and a suspended C-arm for X-rays, where a wide range of medical procedures can be performed — two OR's of the future.
