In contrast to the closed building blocks, which, according to speculative street plans, were placed along the connecting road at the beginning of the last century, De Zwaan is a detached complex whose gardens of the ground floor houses border the public green area along the Trekvliet. A slight kink in the street pattern is absorbed in the building itself: the high head and the lowered tail bend away from the hull. The cross section has also been stepped.
An almost separate front building of balconies and a recessed roof layer fold the building between the waterfront and the sky. It is amazing that you can park practically in front of the door, apart from eight front doors that are just on the waterfront. A magnificent walking route through and around the building, along the waterfront of Trekvliet and Broeksloot, echoes the Cromvliet country estate on the other side of the Vliet, on Rijswijk soil.
